Digital Philology for Duies

<?>Welcome aboard!</?>

Digital Philology for Dummies is slated for release by the end of this year!

What is Digital Philology for Dummies?

Digital Philology for Dummies (DPhD) is software designed to facilitate the transcription of texts into TEI XML format. This software is part of a broader project aimed at utilizing a relational database for further research, particularly in comparing various types of projects entered into the database. The ultimate goal is to collect data to train or fine-tune language models, which are indispensable for humanistic research.

What are the main functions? (read below how it works!)

Users can create their projects, upload images, and transcribe text in a straightforward and user-friendly manner. The software offers a visual image-text comparison system to assist users in markup annotation, guiding them towardsthe application of appropriate markup conventions. Furthermore, users can visualize transcriptions by linking them to visualization software (EVT), for instances involving multiple texts, collation can be conducted through integration with CollateX. Alternatively, users have the option to download their files in XML TEI format/LaTeX.

Who is the target audience?

Anyone working on a project involving the encoding in XML TEI of one or more texts in any language. DPhD caters to students, researchers, and professors specializing in philology, linguistics, archaeology, history, and digital archives. The software’s implementation aims to engage individuals working within the realm of literature as well.

How it works
  • Invite your colleagues to join your project! (You can work alone if you don’t want anyone reading or editing your project!)
  • Establish rules (for instance the roles of your project’s collaborators)
  • Choose your mark-ups!
  • Upload images
  • Transcribe your text in a user-friendly way (definitely perfect for beginners or people in a hurry!)
  • Remember to save your work!
  • Then your file will be automatically exported in a XML format following the TEI guidelines!
  • Alternatively, you can visualize it through EVT
